Dr. Januzzi is the C. Michael Gibson Chair and Chief Scientific Officer at the Baim Institute. He is a trialist focused on diagnostics and therapeutics for cardio-kidney-metabolic diseases including obesity, hypertension, heart failure and coronary artery disease. His research in cardiac biomarker testing has significantly contributed to the understanding of diagnosis, prognosis, and management of heart failure across the full spectrum of the diagnosis. He is currently leading or a member of steering committees for trials focused on drug development for obesity, heart failure, coronary artery disease, and diabetes mellitus. He is deeply experienced in trial design and regulatory aspects of clinical studies. He is a member of the Heart Failure Collaboratory and Cardiac Safety Research Consortium and is on the planning committee for the Cardiovascular Clinical Trialists meeting.
Dr. Januzzi has published more than 1000 manuscripts, book chapters, and review articles and is among the top 1% most cited researchers. He has edited several textbooks and has led or served on numerous writing committees for major guidelines and consensus documents. After graduating as the top ranked student in his medical school class at New York Medical College in Valhalla, NY, he completed a residency in internal medicine at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital, followed by a fellowship in cardiology and cardiac ultrasound at the Massachusetts General Hospital where he joined the staff at MGH in 2000. He is currently the Adolph Hutter Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School.
