Dr. Januzzi is the Chief Scientific Officer and C. Michael Gibson Chair at the Baim Institute for Clinical Research. He is an experienced trialist focused on diagnostics and therapeutics for cardiometabolic diseases including heart failure, coronary artery disease, and obesity. His research in cardiac biomarker testing has significantly contributed to the understanding of diagnosis, prognosis, and management of patients suffering from heart failure and patients with acute coronary syndromes. He is currently leading or a member of steering committees for a broad range of clinical trials focused on drug development for heart failure, coronary artery disease, and obesity, and is leading other studies to develop new biomarkers. He has extensive experience with Cardiology Endpoint Adjudication Committees and Data Safety Monitoring Boards for large international trials. He is a member of the Heart Failure Collaboratory and Cardiac Safety Research Consortium and is on the planning committee for the Cardiovascular Clinical Trialists meeting.
Dr. Januzzi has nearly 1,000 publications and is among the top 1% most cited researchers worldwide each year. He has edited several textbooks and has led or served on numerous writing committees for major guidelines and consensus documents. He served as a Deputy Editor of the Journal of the American College of Cardiology and was a Trustee of the American College of Cardiology. Since 2005, he has also served as a team physician for the Boston Red Sox Baseball Club.
After medical school at New York Medical College in Valhalla, NY, he completed a residency in internal medicine at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital, followed by a fellowship in cardiology and cardiac ultrasound at the Massachusetts General Hospital where he joined the staff at MGH in 2000. He is currently the Adolph Hutter Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School.
