Basil Lewis, MD

Professor Lewis is based in Haifa, Israel as a researcher and consultant at the Lady Davis Carmel Medical Center and the Ruth and Bruce Rappaport School of Medicine, Technion-Israel Institute of Technology. He is a graduate of the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa and undertook post-graduate cardiology training in South Africa and in Los Angeles, California.

Professor Lewis is Past President of the Israel Heart Society and Past-Chairman of the European Society of Cardiology Working Group on Cardiovascular Pharmacotherapy. He was Founding Governor of the Israel Chapter of the American College of Cardiology.

Professor Lewis’ research activities focus on the conduct and practice of clinical trials in the fields of coronary artery disease, thrombosis-hemostasis, diabetes and lipidology. He serves and has served as an executive or steering committee member and as Israel national leader in more than 100 major clinical trials.

Professor Lewis has edited/co-edited 12 books and is an author/co-author of more than 550 professional publications. He is an Associate Editor of the European Heart Journal-Cardiovascular Pharmacotherapy. He also serves on the editorial board of the Journal of the American College of Cardiology (JACC) and other leading journals.
