James Januzzi, MD

Dr. Januzzi’s research in cardiac biomarker testing has significantly contributed to our understanding of diagnosis, prognosis, and management of patients suffering from acutely decompensated heart failure, chronic heart failure, and patients with acute coronary syndromes. He is a member of steering committees for trials focused on drug development for heart failure, coronary artery disease, and diabetes mellitus, and he has extensive experience with Cardiology Endpoint Adjudication Committees and Data Safety Monitoring Boards for large international trials.

He serves as a member of the Board of Trustees at the American College of Cardiology, and he is an Associate Editor at the Journal of the American College of Cardiology and the Journal of the American College of Cardiology: Heart Failure.

Dr. Januzzi has published more than 600 manuscripts, book chapters, and review articles. He has edited textbooks on cardiac biomarker testing as well as the Massachusetts General Hospital Cardiology Review Book and has served on the ACC/AHA Heart Failure Guidelines writing committee.
After medical school at New York Medical College in Valhalla, NY, he completed a residency in internal medicine at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital, followed by a fellowship in cardiology and cardiac ultrasound at the Massachusetts General Hospital where he joined the staff at MGH in 2000. He is director of the cardiac ICU, coordinator of a research fellowship, and the Hutter Family Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School.
