James Januzzi, MD

Dr. Januzzi is a trialist focused on diagnostics and therapeutics for heart failure and coronary artery disease. His research in cardiac biomarker testing has significantly contributed to the understanding of diagnosis, prognosis, and management of patients suffering from acute heart failure, chronic heart failure, and patients with acute coronary syndromes. He is currently leading or a member of steering committees for trials focused on drug development for heart failure, coronary artery disease, and diabetes mellitus, and he has extensive experience with Cardiology Endpoint Adjudication Committees and Data Safety Monitoring Boards for large international trials. He is a member of the Heart Failure Collaboratory and Cardiac Safety Research Consortium and is on the planning committee for the Cardiovascular Clinical Trialists meeting.

Dr. Januzzi has published more than 800 manuscripts, book chapters, and review articles and is among the top 1% most cited researchers. He has edited several textbooks and has led or served on numerous writing committees for major guidelines and consensus documents. He serves as a Deputy Editor of the Journal of the American College of Cardiology.

After medical school at New York Medical College in Valhalla, NY, he completed a residency in internal medicine at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital, followed by a fellowship in cardiology and cardiac ultrasound at the Massachusetts General Hospital where he joined the staff at MGH in 2000. He is currently the Adolph Hutter Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School.
